Country’s Gas Transmission System at Risk Despite Reduced Outflows by E&P Companies
Despite significant reductions in gas outflows by Exploration and Production (E&P) companies, the nation’s gas transmission system remains on the brink of collapse, as reported by The News.
Energy Ministry officials revealed on Tuesday that the line pack remains at 5.078 billion cubic feet (bcf). “If it exceeds 5 bcf, the country’s gas system could burst, leading to a severe gas shortage crisis,” officials warned. Ideally, the gas volume in the transmission pipeline system should not exceed 4.670 bcf.
The OGDCL, Mari, MOL, and PPL have been compelled to cut gas outflows to reduce pressure in the main pipeline. Their gas fields, which are nearing depletion, face increased vulnerability due to reduced outflows. Often, these fields fail to attain natural gas pressure, and some cannot be recharged despite significant past investments.
