Sindh Government Establishes Fusion Center for Anti-Narcotics Efforts

The Sindh government has announced the establishment of a Fusion Center aimed at improving intelligence sharing and coordination on drug-related issues among all provinces and the federal government. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen anti-narcotics operations by connecting relevant institutions. Additionally, the government will collaborate with the Health Department to set up rehabilitation centers for drug addicts.

Meeting Overview

The second meeting of the High-Powered Committee for Anti-Narcotics took place in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Key officials in attendance included Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput, Secretary Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch, and representatives from the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The committee resolved to hold bi-weekly meetings to monitor and accelerate anti-narcotics initiatives.

Key Developments

During the meeting, DIG CIA Muqadas Haider provided updates on ongoing anti-narcotics efforts, reporting that 9,000 individuals are currently seeking rehabilitation. Moreover, 13 suspects involved in supplying drugs to educational institutions have been apprehended. The UNODC pledged its support for the Sindh government’s anti-narcotics initiatives.

Government Commitment

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the need for a Fusion Center in each province and at the federal level to enhance the coordination of drug-related efforts. He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, framing it as critical for the survival of the younger generation.

Memon stressed the importance of collective action, stating that drug tests will be conducted in educational institutions not to embarrass students but to confront the pressing issue of drug use, which affects families and communities.

Urgency of Action

Highlighting the widespread impact of drug use, Memon called for immediate action to address this growing challenge. He insisted that rehabilitation centers must be activated and that efforts should focus on dismantling key drug hideouts.

He assured that no drug dealer would escape justice, affirming that strict measures will be taken against any location associated with drug activity, whether homes, shops, or social gatherings.

This initiative underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to eradicating drug-related issues and fostering a safer environment for future generations.
