A critically injured female leopard was rescued from a water channel in the Haveli area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) by wildlife guards on September 7. The leopard, which was in critical condition, was handed over to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) for treatment at their Islamabad Wildlife Rescue Center (IWRC).
Upon examination, the doctors at IWRC discovered four bullet wounds in the leopard’s body. While one bullet has been removed, two remain near the spine and one near the chest, complicating the treatment process. The animal, unable to stand or move its hindlegs, showed no visible external wounds, leading doctors to suspect severe internal damage.
The rescue team, lacking specialized equipment like a dart gun, secured the animal using traditional methods. Despite the team’s efforts, the leopard’s condition has worsened since the rescue, and she remains under critical care.
