Federal Government Acknowledges Worsening Law and Order Situation with Rising Security Threats in Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan: A Grim Overview of Terrorism-Related Incidents and Casualties from January 2023 to April 2024
The federal government has officially recognized the deteriorating law and order situation across the country, highlighting a significant surge in security threats, particularly in Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. This admission was made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in a written reply to questions raised by Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro.
In a detailed response, the minister provided a provincial breakdown of the incidents and casualties affecting both civilians and members of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). According to the data from the Interior Ministry, a total of 561 incidents of terrorism were recorded nationwide from January 2024 to April 2024. These attacks resulted in 886 casualties, encompassing both LEAs and civilians. Specifically, 167 members of security forces and 118 civilians were martyred, while 348 LEAs personnel and 253 civilians sustained injuries.
The National Assembly was also informed of the broader context, revealing that 1,514 incidents of terrorism were reported from January 2023 to December 2023. These incidents led to the martyrdom of 572 LEAs personnel and 358 civilians. Additionally, 1,292 members of LEAs and 700 civilians were injured during this period.
The Interior Ministry’s data further provided a provincial breakdown of terrorist incidents and casualties from January 2023 to April 2024. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, 282 incidents of terrorism were reported. These resulted in the martyrdom of 131 LEAs personnel and injuries to 260, while 45 civilians were martyred and 79 were injured in these attacks.
