The “Grand Stade Hassan II” is the visionary creation of the architecture firm Oualalou+Choi, in collaboration with Populous, a global leader in sports design. The design of the stadium is deeply rooted in Moroccan culture, particularly drawing inspiration from “moussem,” which are traditional social gatherings known for their communal and festive spirit. This cultural influence is most prominently reflected in the stadium’s grand tented rooftop, which is designed to resemble the large tents often used in these gatherings.
The stadium’s unique tent-like structure is crafted from an intricate aluminum lattice, creating a visually stunning and structurally sound canopy that dominates the surrounding landscape. The rooftop, supported by a ring of 32 stairways, is not only a nod to Moroccan heritage but also an example of innovative architectural engineering.
