Senate Standing Committee Criticizes PTA for Internet Slowdown and Ban on X, Summons Interior Ministry

The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication has expressed strong displeasure over the recent briefing by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials concerning the slowdown of internet services and the ban on X, formerly known as Twitter. The committee voiced its frustration, particularly with the absence of the PTA chairman from the meeting, deeming it unacceptable.

During the session, PTA representatives revealed that the ban on X was implemented following directives from the Ministry of Interior. In response, the Senate panel has decided to summon officials from the Interior Ministry for the next meeting to clarify their role in the decision-making process.
