Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has unveiled new state-of-the-art medical facilities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi, marking another significant milestone in Sindh’s healthcare sector. The newly inaugurated units include a 120-bed Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, a 110-bed Department of Neurology and Stroke Unit, and the advanced CyberKnife S7-FIM system, reaffirming the province’s commitment to providing high-quality, free healthcare services.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the excellence of Sindh’s healthcare institutions, noting that JPMC, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), and the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) are among the best in Pakistan. He described these institutions as exemplary models of good governance and successful public-private partnerships, highlighting the Sindh government’s effective management of these facilities post the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed out that while negative news about Pakistan often dominates media narratives, these institutions stand as beacons of hope. He proudly stated that the Sindh government, under PPP leadership, has established the world’s largest heart hospital, NICVD, and continues to offer free treatment at JPMC’s CyberKnife unit, which is available in only a few countries worldwide. The Royal College of Radiology has ranked JPMC’s cancer treatment department among the top ten globally.
In his address, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari contrasted Sindh’s approach to healthcare with that of other provinces, criticizing their focus on private hospitals through health cards. He expressed pride in Sindh’s provision of free, quality healthcare services, including the free PET-CT scan for cancer diagnosis, which is not available in any other province.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari suggested that during the Prime Minister’s next visit to Karachi, a tour of JPMC, NICVD, and NICH should be arranged to showcase these achievements. He also reiterated his willingness to assist in establishing similar hospitals in Punjab and ongoing efforts in Balochistan.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with a signing event between the Patients’ Aid Foundation and the Sindh Government for the Radiation Oncology Section at JPMC, attended by key provincial leaders, including Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho.
