Power Distribution Companies Seek to Recover Rs55.46 Billion from Consumers

State-owned power distribution companies (Discos) have officially filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to recover Rs55.46 billion, including GST, from power consumers over three months, spanning September to November 2024. This recovery pertains to various adjustments for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, covering the period from April to June 2024.

A substantial portion of the recovery, approximately 48.7 percent or Rs22.868 billion, consists of capacity charges that will be transferred to private power generators (IPPs). Nepra has scheduled a public hearing on this petition for August 26, 2024. The outcome of this fourth quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA) for FY2023-24 will also impact K-Electric customers.
