Emirati Government to Test Four-Day Work Week with Reduced Hours for Summer

The Emirati state is set to pilot a four-day work week with reduced hours for government employees this summer. as many as 15 government organizations will implement a seven-hour workday from August 12 to September 30, with Fridays off, under a program called “Our Summer is Flexible.”

This initiative, launched by Dubai’s Human Resources Department, aims to enhance employee performance and improve the quality of life. The move is in response to feedback from staff surveys showing strong support for shorter summer hours. The department will monitor the program closely and provide recommendations on whether it should become a permanent summer policy.

This development follows Sharjah’s successful implementation of a four-day work week in 2022 and reflects the UAE’s broader trend towards shorter workweeks.
