In a historic achievement, Pakistan’s renowned javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a massive throw of 92.97 meters, clinching the gold medal in the Javelin Throw event. Nadeem’s incredible performance came in his second attempt, surpassing the previous Olympic record held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who threw 90.57 meters at the 2008 Beijing Games.
This victory marks Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal in the Olympics and the country’s first gold in any discipline in 40 years. It also ended a 32-year Olympic medal drought for Pakistan; the last time the nation stood on the podium was in 1992 when the national hockey team won bronze at the Barcelona Olympics.
India’s Neeraj Chopra, who was the defending champion, secured the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters took the bronze with an 88.54-meter throw.
It’s noteworthy that of the seven athletes Pakistan sent to the Olympics, six were disqualified from their respective events, making Nadeem’s achievement even more remarkable.
