Karachi Braces for Heavy Rains: PMD Forecasts Intense Weather from August 4 to 7

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather warning for Karachi, forecasting one or two spells of heavy rain from August 4 to 7. The port city has already experienced drizzling and light to moderate rain over the past two days.

Starting from Friday, August 4, the effects of the monsoon system are expected to intensify, with the possibility of light to torrential showers in Karachi. The PMD has cautioned that rainfall could range between 40mm to 60mm in various parts of the city, with some areas potentially receiving up to 100mm of rain.

The forecast also indicates that Karachi will likely see rain showers on Saturday, August 5. Earlier predictions had suggested moderate to torrential rains from August 3 to 5.

On Wednesday night, heavy rain showers had already affected different areas of Karachi, leading to flooding in low-lying regions. Areas including Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence, and North Karachi experienced intermittent showers.

In addition to Karachi, the Met Office has warned that strong monsoon winds from Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea could influence various parts of Sindh, potentially leading to heavy rain showers with lightning. The low-lying areas of Sindh are at risk of inundation, and there is a chance of flooding in Kirthar and other rivers and nullahs in Balochistan’s mountainous regions.

Flash floods are also a concern for Daddu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro due to the anticipated heavy rains.
