ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has lodged a formal complaint with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Yal Pakistan reported on Saturday.
Barrister Ali Zafar submitted the complaint to the SJC on behalf of PTI’s Secretary General, Omar Ayub.
The PTI has requested an investigation into alleged misconduct by the CEC and ECP members. The party is calling for their removal if the charges are substantiated.
Barrister Zafar accused the election commission of repeatedly violating the constitution. He pointed out that the commission failed to hold elections in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the National Assembly within the constitutionally mandated 90-day period.
The PTI’s counsel also claimed that the election commission had shown bias against the PTI, making decisions aimed at sidelining its founder. He alleged that the commission unfairly scrutinized only PTI’s accounts in the prohibited funding case and unlawfully withdrew PTI’s election symbol, the ‘bat.’
Zafar asserted that the commission’s actions have demonstrated a clear partiality against the PTI.
