PTI Ban Postponed Due to PM’s Schedule

ISLAMABAD: According to sources from the PM House, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s hectic schedule has caused a delay in the scheduled cabinet meeting intended to discuss the possible banning of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

The meeting was scheduled to discuss the contentious topic of outlawing the PTI and was initially scheduled for Tuesday. Media reports had stated that the cabinet would discuss whether to take Article 6 of the Constitution action against former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and former President Arif Alvi.

The meeting was postponed due to the Prime Minister’s busy schedule, an official from PM House informed Dawn. It is now expected that the meeting will take place on Wednesday.

The ruling coalition has declared its intention to exclude PTI from politics and to prosecute its leader for sedition on grounds of constitutional violations.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, recently accused PTI of engaging in anti-state activities since 2014, holding the party responsible for several deaths during protests against the government and state institutions.

Tarar specifically blamed PTI for a fatality that occurred during a peace rally in Bannu last week, further intensifying the political friction between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
