KARACHI: Over the past 13 years, the Sindh government has successfully treated 6 million children in public hospitals through its public-private partnership model.

This collaboration has led to the modernization of children’s Emergency Rooms (ERs) in all public tertiary care hospitals, significantly improving the survival rates of critically ill children.

In addition, the Sindh government has implemented telemedicine technology across all tehsils, ensuring that quality emergency care is accessible to children near their homes. “Thanks to the public-private partnership, every child in Sindh is now within 30 minutes of quality emergency care,” said Dr. Ahsan Rabbani, CEO of ChildLife Foundation. This initiative has been instrumental in reducing child mortality rates in Sindh. According to UNICEF’s Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), the under-5 child mortality rate in Sindh dropped from 104 per 1,000 live births in 2014 to 46 per 1,000 live births in 2018-2019. This significant progress has made Sindh a leader in improving children’s emergency care in Pakistan.

The Sindh government’s public-private partnership program has been recognized as the 6th best in Asia. The impact of this initiative is evident in the treatment of 6 million children over the past 13 years and the financial relief it has provided to families, helping them avoid falling into debt.
