Boat Capsizes in Italy: 11 Dead Including Pakistani Migrants

In another tragic incident of boat capsizing, at least 11 people, including Pakistani migrants, lost their lives when a vessel sank off the coast of Italy. The German sea rescue organization RESQSHIP reported that they rescued 51 individuals from a wooden boat approximately 90 kilometers south of the island of Lampedusa in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday.

Rescuers discovered 10 bodies trapped on the lower deck of the vessel. Ingo Werth, the captain of the rescue boat “Nadir,” described the dire situation, stating, “The migrants’ boat was on the verge of capsizing, posing a grave risk even for rescuers.”

Survivors informed aid workers that they had departed from the Libyan port of Zuwarah two days prior. The majority of the migrants on board were from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Syria, and Egypt.

This incident underscores the ongoing peril faced by migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea, often in overcrowded and unsafe vessels, in search of better lives. The international community continues to grapple with the challenges of providing aid and ensuring the safety of these vulnerable individuals.
