KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized his government’s commitment to fast-tracking renewable energy projects to reduce the overall basket tariff of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), making electricity more affordable for the general public.
“Beyond reducing tariffs, renewable energy will also help achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by creating a clean, reliable, and sustainable environment,” stated Shah during a meeting preceding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) and Gul Ahmed Group at the CM House.
Sindh Minister for Energy, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, briefed the CM about the collaboration. Gul Ahmed Group approached STDC to construct a 132kV transmission line from their 100 MW wind power plant at Jhimpir to their facility in Landhi, Karachi. The Sindh government has already allocated 524 acres and 558 acres of land in the Jhimpir wind corridor for this purpose. The STDC will lay a 60 km transmission line from Jhimpir, Thatta to Landhi, Karachi. This Business-to-Business (B2B) project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Minister Nasir Shah highlighted that these environmentally friendly projects would promote green energy and provide cheaper electricity sources, boosting the economy and creating jobs in Sindh.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, along with provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Zulfiqar Shah, Dost Rahimoo, and others. The MoU was signed by STDC Director General Saleem Shaikh and Gul Ahmed Group representatives Zain Bashir and Ziad Bashir.
